About Dr Jaime Olsen
Associate Veterinary Surgeon and Head of Surgery Department BVSc MANZCVS (Small Animal Surgery)
Dr Jaime studied Veterinary Science at James Cook University in North Queensland, graduating in 2014. She began her career in referral and specialist practice, firstly as a rotating intern in Brisbane, which cemented her passion for all things surgery. She moved to Western Australia to further pursue this field, spending 2 years in a specialist small animal surgery department.
Since completion of her internships, Dr Jaime has continued working in general practices in the Perth area, focussing on providing exceptional surgical care for her patients and using low-stress techniques to make their visits more enjoyable. In 2019, Dr Jaime passed her examinations and became a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in small animal surgery. She enjoys performing both orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries and is passionate about both post-operative and chronic pain management.
Dr Jaime is the fur-parent of her beloved rescue cat from the Cat Haven, ‘Small Fry’ (pictured here) and her rescue bunny, ‘Claude Monet’. The 2 are very bonded and enjoy chasing and grooming each other. She also enjoys good food and wine, puzzles and games as well as painting pet portraits in watercolour.
Dr Jaime enjoys all aspects of feline general practice, including preventative health and medicine. However, her main interests lie in the fields of surgery, emergency and critical care, chronic pain management and rehabilitation. Dr Jaime particularly enjoys gastrointestinal surgeries, urogenital surgeries, fracture repairs, surgical oncology and skin reconstructive procedures. We are very lucky that she has brought her skillset in performing advanced procedures such as brachycephalic syndrome surgeries including stenotic nares surgery, perineal urethrostomies, medial patellar luxation repairs, total ear canal ablation and bulla osteotomies (TECABO) and many more to the Perth Cat Hospital. This has enabled us to care for many patients that are normally referred ensuring these kitties benefit from the cat-only hospital experience.
Dr Jaime currently has 2 published papers in peer reviewed veterinary journals and feels passionate about furthering the field of veterinary science through research. She also enjoys being involved in continuing education and teaching students.
